Hi Peter and welcome to the forum. Please feel free to share and comment as you like.
Welcome to the forum Peter. What's your favourite British AFV? 🤔
Favourite British AFV - well I'd have to say the Cromwell/Comet family.
The Cromwell was very underrated but superb in the rapid exploitation role in the post Normandy breakout. The Comet was the tank we should have had in June 1944 but even with its short wartime service period proved it self. What's your favourite?
Good call on the Comet. I like the Churchill family, in particular the 'Black Prince' not sure it counts only being a prototype. I would love to scratch-build some British AFVs but getting hold of good comprehensive plans and info is proving frustrating.
Have you been to Cobbaton Combat Collection Sera? They have a Churchill crocodile and a Centaur.
I have a soft spot for the Churchill, good vehicle and did exactly what it was designed for. Just the concept was out dated. Black Prince would have been like the Comet, best of breed. Just a shame only 6 built and it never entered service.
Re plans have you contacted Bovington, the Archive/Library there has a huge selection of documentation including original factory plans.
Not been to Cobbaton but I'm planning to, probably this summer. The journey from where I live in East Devon isn't the easiest. May visit Mark when I go and pick up some of his workstations and update the cave!
I usually visit Bovington around once a month, I have a gold Friends Membership so get lots of access and info - and of course there is a Cromwell, Comet, Churchill and Black Prince there!!
I have been to Cobbaton. One of our local model club members helps out there (currently working on the RAM). Apparently they have had abig reorganisation recently so the exhibits are better displayed now. Note to self - revisit this year. Bovington is awesome - love it I hope to spend a couple of days down there this year when the new exhibition is up and running and it's quiet (Monday / Tuesday). I haven't approached the archive yet - must do.
